Bioforce commits Rs. 50m for masonry training

TRAINING: Bioforce, a leading charitable organisation recognised by
the French Government has committed Rs 50 million to Sri Lanka to train
young persons in Sri Lanka, who are engaged in the construction
industry.
The funds, that are required for these activities has been disbursed
through the French Red Cross Society to the local office, Bioforce-CCI,
Financial Officer Marie Lery told the Daily News.
She said that Bioforce, working in partnership with the Chamber of
Construction Industry (CCI) to provide training expertise and financial
support for masons and carpenters in their two training centres that are
set up in Balapitiya and Matara areas. They have invested Rs 14 million
for each training Centre.
Last year, the two institutions namely Bioforce and CCI signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a partnership arrangement to
establish two training centres in the tsunami affected areas in Sri
Lanka as a livelihood development project to train 400 construction
craftsmen within a period of two years.
The prospective masons and carpenters should be between 16 to 30 and
those who completed this six months programme will be provided with a
tool kit, free along with a recognised certificate. During the training
period trainees would be paid a daily allowance, Lery said.
As a part of their humanitarian activities they are in the process of
renovating the water system in the Walasmulla Base hospital at a cost of
Rs 4.5 million. They are also in the process of setting up another
training centre in Kalutara soon, she said. Bioforce Development
Institute is a centre for professional training and human resources
management, specialising in international aid.
