Tiger suicide boat with claymores recovered

Vakarai : The LTTE’s abandoned suicide boat that was detected by Army Monday from Panichchankerny lagoon in Vakarai was found fitted with four claymore mines that could be self-activated and one 120 mm mortar plus an additional explosive tube, the Army confirmed.

The suicide boat remained submerged in water to avoid visibility has, according to the Army re-emerged as the water levels receded in the lagoon area, now under the control of the Security forces.

The 120 mm mortar and the explosive tube were also found fixed on to this suicide boat which could have also been used perhaps as an under water device causing an immense destruction and carnage.

The boat, it is believed has been abandoned by fleeing Tiger terrorists when the Security Forces were rolling on to capture that area several months back.

Had they not been beaten, the suicide boat with improvised claymore mines could have been used by terrorists against the Security Forces in a sophisticated manner.
