Air Force destroys Tiger training camp

MULLAITIVU: Air Force Kfir jets and MiGs pounded identified LTTE targets and destroyed an LTTE training camp causing heavy casualties to the Tigers south of Mankulam yesterday morning.

The Air Force jets carried out an air strike targeting an LTTE training camp in Mankulam yesterday around 6.45 a.m, Air Force Group Captain Ajantha Silva said.

“The target was precisely identified from ground intelligent sources,” he added.

It was completely destroyed as the area was surrounded with a cloud of debris following the bombardment. The LTTE suffered heavy damage, Group Captain Silva said.

According to defence sources, the training camp was believed to be a regular visiting site for the LTTE’s self-styled ‘Police Chief’ Nadeshan. “It is not yet confirmed whether Nadeshan was present at the time of the air strike,” sources added.
