Kuwait: President Mahinda Rajapaksa asserts he will uplift the
welfare facilities and solve the problems encountered by the Sri Lankan
expatriate community working in Middle East countries, at official level
with commitment.
President Rajapaksa made this assertion when he met a group of Sri
Lankan expatriates working in Kuwait on Monday. Around 135,000 Sri
Lankan workers are domiciled in Kuwait, engaged in varied vocations.
A large number of these Sri Lankans who were yearning to meet
President Rajapaksa had participated at this friendly get-together.
President Rajapaksa was of the view that these expatriate workers
engaged in diverse vocations were a formidable group to be reckoned with
as they contributed immensely to the economic development of Sri Lanka.
“The Government will focus special attention on them”, he said.
The President said in future when Sri Lankans are recruited for
employment in the Middle East, the Government will always strive to
recruit such personnel for more qualitative and lucrative careers, such
as nursing and in more skilled categories in the industrial sector. |
