VAVUNIYA: The Omanthai entry/exit point was reopened for civilians yesterday morning after four days.

It was closed since Thursday due to LTTE sporadic artillery attacks. "We requested the ICRC officials to negotiate with the LTTE to stop attacking the Omanthai entry/exit point. The entry point was closed to ensure the safety of civilians lives who could be victims of LTTE artillery attacks," Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe told the Daily News.

The Omanthai entry/exit point was reopened yesterday around 9.15 a.m. "It was reopened following discussions between the ICRC and the LTTE," he added.
