Muthuthantri, Hemantha in fine display

BOXING: S. M. Muthuthanthri of St.Johnís College made a fine impact when he knocked out W.G.C.S. Bandara from Girithale Vidyalaya in a preliminary round bout on the second day of the L. V. Jayaweera Memorial Trophy Boxing tournament continued at the Pilimathalawa Central College, yesterday.

Muthuthanthriís dominance was so much that he brought down his opponent in the first round of the 46 kg to 48 Kgs weight class of the age category of 15 to 17 years.

The other outgoing performance came from promising K.K.G.S. Hemantha of Dharmaraja College, Kandy when he knocked out his home town rival P. M. G. P. Weersinghe of Halloluwa College, Kandy.

Hemantha downed Weerasinghe in the early round and booked a place to qualify into the next round of the light fly weight class 45kgs to 48Kgs age category of 17 to 20 years.

In the light fly weight 33-35Kgs and 13-15 years category bouts N. D. Priyantha (Peradeniya College) had the better of I.G.N.K. Nawaratne (Elahera Vidyalaya) on points 14-7.

Meanwhile W.T.D. Perera (Taxila College, Horana) ousted W.H. Madushanka (Royal College, Horana) 21-7 on points. In a closely contested match in the same weight class category H. M. L. P. Jayawardane (Mahanama College) beat M. Abdulla (Arethusa) 11-10, M. S. S. Jayasinghe (Rajagiriya MV) beat R.M.R.B. Ratnayake (Swarnajothi Vidyalaya) 10-5.

In the bantam weight 37-39Kgs and 13-15 years category A.A.T. Madushanka (Seevali College) outclassed N.D. Sanjeewa (Peradeniya CC) with the referee deciding to stop the contest in the first bout.

In the light weight 41-43 Kgs and 13-15 years category G. M. Gotabaya (Seevali College) overcame D. M. M. Bandara (D. S. Senanayake College, Kandy) as he was disqualified by the referee in the third bout.

M. K. C. R. Jayasinghe (Mihindu Vidyalaya) went down to P.J.B. Colombage with a margin of 9-16. In the light fly weight 44-46 Kgs and 15 to 17 years category G. W. U. M. Maduranga (St. Aloysius College) beat A.A.R.P. Amarasinghe (Wickramashila Vidyalaya) with the referee deciding to stop the contest with the latter outscored at 1 point to 16 points.

D.G.C.C. Chathuranga (Mahanama College) outclassed M.N.M. Roshan (Mihindu Vidyalaya), E. G. K. L. Gunadasa (Halloluwa College) beat KADM.Wickramanayake (Sri Sumangala, Panadura) in a close margin of 17-15, T.M. Dodangoda (Seevali) outclassed L.Karunaratne (Nugawela CC) in the first bout, G.S. Pradeep (St.Lukeís) outscored S.R.L.H.S.K. Senanayake (Peradeniya CC) 20-5, W.D. Priyasad (Basilica) outclassed GGSC. Munasinghe (Royal, Polonnaruwa), PBN.Laknuwan (Naradeniya MV) outscored KM.Dilshan (Royal, Colombo) 18-3, RP.Abeyratne (Vidyartha College) outclassed ASDLC. Samarakoon (Rajarata MV) 9-0, EAS.Srimal (Malwaththawala) beat MHAG.Dayawansa (St.Johnís College) 15-4, RMC.Ratnayake (Monaragala NS) beat S.M.Weerasinghe (Bandaranayake Gampaha), MW.Wazir (Zahira) beat RPD.Madusanka (Rajagiriya Vidyalaya) 9-6, R.Jeewan (Ellakanda TS) beat APS.Parakrama (Maharagama CC), MAP.Kumara (Ingiriya V) beat NGRC.Silva (Kengalla MV) 19-9.
