Media, politics must have positive, affectionate ties

COLOMBO: Media and politics has to have a positive and affectionate relationship, specially when the country is going ahead with massive development projects, Nimal Weeratunga, Media Secretary to the Airport and Aviation Minister said.

“The media must correct mistakes by Governments,” Weeratunga told provincial correspondents of Hambantota district at the inauguration of a media workshop at the Information Department yesterday.

He said, it is not easy to change mistakes prevailing for several decades but it is the responsibility of the media to point out them and educate the public.

Weeratunga said, developing Hambantota will be a historical event once the project is completed.

A large number of media personnel from Hambantota participated at the two-day media workshop conducted by lecturers and editors. The workshop was a concept of Airport and Aviation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa.
