Mammoth funds for development projects
MANNAR: The Nation Building and Infrastructure Development
Ministry will invest Rs. 3324.76 million on development projects this
A part of this amounting to Rs. 975.95 m is granted by Japan
International Co-operation Agency (JICA), Germany’s GTZ, France and
Norway, a Ministry spokesman said.
He said the balance Rs. 2348.81 million are local funds of which Rs.
1421.40 million will be spent on local projects. Rs. 653.31 million is
for special projects and Rs. 274.01 million for building bridges.
The foreign funds would be utilised for infrastructure development,
uplift conflict affected, minimise environment pollution and emergency
rehabilitation work in Mannar, Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts and
Wanni and other areas in the Eastern Province.
Local funds would also be utilised for Trincomalee Town Development,
re-settlement of people and rehabilitation of Somawathie Cetiya approach
Under special projects highways will be developed in Batticaloa,
Trincomalee, Kankesanturai, Mavil Aru and Habarana.
Prospecting for Catchment areas, extension of KKS harbour and
rehabilitation of Mavil Aru Circuit Bungalow will also be undertaken
under special projects.
A sum of Rs. 274.10 million has been earmarked for building 10
bridges in Hambantota, Polonnaruwa and Puttalam districts.
