Verdict on drain death on May 24

COLOMBO: City Coroner Ashraff Rumy yesterday decided to return the verdict on the death of Anoma Gunadasa of Moratuwa after the taking into account the submissions of Colombo Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Engineer on May 24.

The City Coroner earlier issued notice on Colombo Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Engineer during the inquiry into the death of Anoma Gunadasa, 31, who fell into an unprotected canal at Wijerama Road, Colombo 07 on May 03 due to heavy floods.

The CMC Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Engineer appeared in court on behalf of the CMC Commissioner. Assistant Judicial Medical Officer S. Ganesh conducted the post-mortem.

Attorney at Law Gamini Chandrasena appeared for the Colombo Municipal council.

Anoma was a research officer attached to the Save the Children organisation.
