The Sri Lankan market is a much growing market for Nokia. 3G
technologies were introduced first to Sri Lankan users among developing
countries.
Since the country's literacy level and GDP growth is higher when
compared to developing countries, Nokia is much concerned about
developing the mobile phone market,. Rajesh Sokhal, National Sales
Manager, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives, Nokia, said at the event
unveiling the New Dealer programs at Taj Samudra on April 26.
Unauthorised handsets, batteries and other accessories brought into
the countries are bad for the country's economic development.
Every user in the country as a citizen should consider the impact of
not paying the taxes and Customs duties on imports, he said.
'It's an opportunity for Nokia to promote genuine phones to be bought
by the consumers, and Nokia products are made suitable for consumer
usage.
That made us known to consumers widely, Sokhal said.
'Mobile penetration in Sri Lanka is now 22 per cent, growing and
Nokia phone plans to engage the dealers, distributors and customers in
awareness programs through road shows and promotions.
In three months time you can see a huge change in the retail market
of Nokia phones, he said. |
