‘President Premadasa’s services etched in the hearts of people’
COLOMBO: A commemorative ceremony to mark the 14th death
anniversary of President Ranasinghe Premadasa will be held near the
Premadasa statue on April 30 at 8.15 a.m. Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara,
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Public Administration and
Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya will be among the special
invitees. Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa and other members of the
Premadasa family will also be present.
Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya in a
message to mark the occasion said, late President Premadasa was a unique
personality among State leaders who ruled the country since
independence. He was deeply sensitive to the hopes, aspirations and
needs of the people. Late President Premadasa added a human face to
statecraft and set many examples for subsequent rulers to follow. Some
of these examples are often referred to by the incumbent President.
Late President Premadasa had an indigenous concept about the
country’s development and insisted in village development as a
pre-requisite for national development.
He never forget our heritage, cultural and moral values and this
enabled him to endear himself to the people. The services rendered by
him are etched in the hearts of the people for ever.
He was also a great humanist and may he attain the bliss of Nibbana. |
