New UK visa scheme for graduates

COLOMBO: A new scheme will enable international students to work in the UK for a year after they have completed their studies, the British High Commission and the British Council said yesterday.

International students who obtain a bachelors degree or higher level qualification in any subject from a recognised university or college in the United Kingdom will be able to stay on for a year.

The scheme will be introduced on May 1 and will help cement the UK’s status as a top study destination for international students. British High Commissioner, Dominick Chilcott said “international students bring many benefits to the UK.

After the United States, the UK is the country which attracts the most international students and we need to build on this enviable position.

Potential students who wish to study in the UK can get more information on courses and universities and colleges from the British Council Offices in Colombo and Kandy. For more information about the International Graduates Scheme visit www.workingintheuk.gov.uk
