Grama Sevaka in bribery net

COLOMBO: Colombo Chief Magistrate Sarojani Kusala Weerawardane
on Wednesday ordered the remand of the Weerakumandawela division Grama
Sevaka for allegedly accepting a bribe.
The inquiries were conducted by the Commission to Investigate
Allegation of Bribery or Corruption on a complaint made by Saman Perera
of Bangadeniya. According to the complainant the suspect had demanded a
sum of Rs. 3000 in return for issuing him (complainant) with three
settlement certificates.
According to the complainant the GS had made difficulties that the
certificates could not be issued since the particular names were not in
the electoral register. On the other hand if he (complainant) paid him
Rs. 1000 each for the three certifies the matter would be attended to.
Chief Magistrate Sarojani Kusala Weerawardane remanded the suspect
until April 25 and ordered the Commission to produce the suspect on the
next hearing date with a report. |
