Maintain vigilance, public told

COLOMBO: The Defence Ministry yesterday urged the public to be extra vigilant when they gather at crowded places such as bus and train terminals, shopping centres and busy streets during the New Year holidays as terrorists could attempt to cause mayhem and destruction.

They are also urged to exercise caution when travelling in buses and trains.

The authorities request the public to inform them about any suspicious vehicles, parcels or persons to the following hotlines: 118/119, 116 (unidentified or suspicious aircraft), 011-2684929, 2693110, 077-3171426. These are in addition to the normal Police Emergency numbers.
