COLOMBO: Politicians should protect the public servants’
dignity, said Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu
Jayasuriya.He was addressing the Assistant Divisional Secretaries at a
workshop at the New Town Hall recently.
The 17th Amendment to the Constitution is intended to elevate the
status of Public servant,” the Minister said.
He said, he could not be satisfied with the present public service
which was under political grip for several decades.
“I hope to make it free from the clutches of politicians,” he said.
Public servants should work for their Motherland with particular
emphasis on day-to-day official requirements of the public, Jayasuriya
said.
He hailed the decision to establish a voluntarily organisation ‘Clean
Hands’ by ministry Secretary D. Dissanayake to inquire into corruption
and financial discrepancies in the public sector.
Local Government Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera and Ministry
Secretary D. Dissanayake also participated. |
