Sarasaviya Awards Festival sponsored by People's Bank

COLOMBO: In keeping with a long running tradition of supporting the development of art and culture in Sri Lanka, People's Bank has come forward to sponsor the 31st Sarasaviya Awards Festival 2006-2007 that will be held on April 5, 2007 at the BMICH.

Begun in 1964 at the Ashoka Cinema Hall in Grandpass, the Sarasaviya Film Festival has today come to be known as the foremost and the most popular film festival in Sri Lankan cinema.

The focus of the festival has always been about creating a unique identity where the Sri Lankan cinema is concerned, and about giving direction to the industry as whole, ensuring that the younger generation is guided by the same standards that have gained the festival much recognition and credibility among Sri Lankan cinemagoers.

The Sarasaviya Awards Festival is also a decisive event that enables the measuring of the artistic values and the commercial interests of the Sri Lankan cinema industry.

As a bank that has an interest in contributing to the socio-cultural fabric of Sri Lanka, People's Bank is indeed proud to be associated with an event of this calibre. The bank recognises the importance of appreciating the cinematic contributions that have been made to society, and is ever mindful of the way in which the festival brings both the stars and the critics on to the same platform.

People's Bank was also a part of the Sarasaviya Film Festivals that were held in Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara and Colombo, Drawing large numbers of eager fans, the events were a resounding success, and provided a fitting lead up to the final ceremony.

They showcased the films that were competing with each other at the Sarasaviya Awards Festival, and provided an opportunity for movie enthusiasts to rekindle memories of their favourite films from both 2005 and 2006.
