Lanka records highest economic growth in 30 years

SRI LANKA has been able to record the highest economic growth rate in 30 years in 2006, the first year since the implementation of Mahinda Chinthana, while facing serious economic and political challenges.

Navy denies firing at Indian fishermen

THE Sri Lanka Navy denied allegations made in certain foreign media alleging that it has killed four Indian fishermen on March 29. The Naval Headquarters said the fleet units of Sri Lanka Navy do not fire at fishermen and instructions have been issued to those units to adhere to the Standing Operational Procedures when dealing with fishermen.

New domestic airline to be launched in Lanka

THE JS Group of Pakistan will be lunching a domestic airline service in Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Defence has cleared the venture. The Company has already entered into a commercial partnership with Deccan Aviation Lanka, which is already operating helicopter operations.
