Army destroy four LTTE boats

JAFFNA: The Army yesterday destroyed four LTTE boats sailing from the uncleared areas of Kalmunai Point and Sangupitiya in Jaffna towards cleared areas on Monday night, the Media Centre for National Security said.

The LTTE boats were spotted in the military radar around 8.30 pm and 12.30 a.m yesterday, a spokesman for MCNS said.

He said troops destroyed the four boats by firing artillery. "The damage inflicted or casualties could not be verified due to the targets being in the uncleared areas", he added.

Meanwhile, an LTTE cadre was shot dead by the troops in Nagarkovil, Jaffna on Monday morning. According to the MCNS spokesman, the LTTE cadre was detected trespassing near the Nagarkovil Forward Defence.

"It is suspected that the Tiger cadre was spying near the Forward Defence Line", he added.
