May Day on April 29

COLOMBO: International Workers' Day celebrations will be held on April 29 this year.

A Cabinet decision has been taken to this effect since Vesak Poya Day falls on May 1 this year, said Labour Commissioner General D.S. Edirisinghe. All Government sponsored programmes to commemorate International Workers' Day (May Day) will be held on April 29 and other political parties and trade unions are free to suggest any other day for Workers' Day as they wished.

If there are any religious programmes to mark May Day they could be held on May 1 as usual.
