Expressions through art

PAINTING: Works speak in multiple tongues and the paintings of S.H. Sarath are no exception. The artist’s creations express spontaneity, triggering the mind and predicting a social message to its viewers.

The renowned painter is holding an exhibition of his paintings at the Alliance Francaise, Colombo, from March 23 to April 6. Thirty paintings both in colour and black and white will be on display at the premises. Some of these paintings date far back as to the 1980s.

“These paintings celebrate human rights. My attempt is to portray creations which display a certain social message to my viewers.I believe that once a person gets use to appreciating the beauty of paintings, that the quality becomes embedded into his soul,” Sarath observed.

“The black and white paintings are put forward to express a more simple, and straightforward message. Coloured shades portray a theme of their own, a more rigorous message for the intellectuals. I aim at viewers from the whole society, despite social boundaries and barriers.”
