Inter-int'l schools meet off the blocks today

Sportsmeet: The Seventh Annual Inter-International schools
Sports meet will get off the blocks today and will continue till Sunday.
This year's meet is organised by Gateway International School's
Senior Students under the guidance of the school's Chairman, R.I.T.
Alles and Secretary General Sunil Jayaweera.
These details were disclosed at a press briefing held at the Athletic
Association Auditorium.
Harsha Alles, Deputy Chairman of Gateway speaking said that nineteen
International schools who are members of the International Schools
Association will compete at this meet during three days of competition.
He said that this year the organisers decided to hand over the
organisation to senior students' of Gateway International school.
This he said was done to get them to develop leadership skills. They
as the future generation and need to know their responsibility to the
nation. 'This challenge they have undertaken very seriously', said
Harsha.
The meet will be conducted under eight age categories ranging from 7
years to 20 years for Boys and Girls.
A total of 131 events for both categories will be conducted during
these day's for which the computer system is to be used in providing
final results.
This was also made use of when accepting entries for the meet which
is a novel idea according to Harsha Alles.
A total of 2700 Boys and Girls have sent in their entries. The
opening ceremony will start at 2.00 p.m. today.
On the final day former Sri Lankan cricketer Aravinda de Silva will
be the chief guest and give away the awards. |
