Nameless, headless LTTE front to hold campaign meeting

LONDON: Leaflets circulated in London confirm an anonymous group is holding a political campaign meeting in South London on February 24.

The leaflet titled 'War, Peace and Human Rights in Sri Lanka' is to be held at Tolworth Girls School, Fullers Way North, Tolworth, Surrey between 2.00 and 4.00 pm.

The leaflet states Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP, Susan Kraemer MP and Edward Davey MP of the Liberal Democratic Party will be addressing the meeting. The leaflet does not confirm organiser's name. Inquiries made with LTTE contacts confirm South London based Councillor Yogan Yoganathan of Richmond Borough Council has organised this meeting.

Councillor Yogan Yoganathan and Councillor Elizabeth Packiyadevi Mann of Southwark Council are the hardcore LTTE activists carrying Liberal Democratic Party card to campaign for the LTTE. They do not shy away from campaigning to legitimise the LTTE and its violent anti-social conduct and have made substantial impact on the party members to back them.

Both the Tamil Liberal Democratic Party councillors are called Liberal Democratic Puligal (Liberal Democratic Tigers) for their untiring efforts to make their influence stand in the party. The forthcoming meeting is an extension of their campaign work to get the backing of the senior members of the Liberal Democratic Party to speak in support of the LTTE cause and singularly criticise the Sri Lankan Government.

LTTE is a proscribed organisation under the Terrorism Act in the UK. The LTTE councillors do not condemn the atrocities committed by the Tigers and advocate LTTE's actions as necessities to weed out the enemies of LTTE in the society, until such time an independent Tamil Eelam state is established violently.

Many democratic voices have fallen victims to the bullets and suicide bombings of the LTTE to establish LTTE's violent control of the society.

The Liberal Democratic Party takes a firm stand against terrorism and it is expected the guest speakers whilst criticising the human rights record of the Sri Lankan Government will condemn the terror campaign and child recruitment of the LTTE in uncertain terms.

Concerns have been raised that Liberal Democratic Puligal Councillor has organised this political meeting at a public school and topic taken will include supporting terrorism of a proscribed organisation (LTTE).

Further problems has arisen as the organiser of the meeting Councillor Yogan Yoganathan is a well-known Tiger supporter and have not made any statements against the atrocities committed by the LTTE against his own people.
