Navy destroys two LTTE boats killing nine Sea Tigers

COLOMBO: The Navy yesterday destroyed two LTTE boats which were on a mission of destruction, off the Kalpitiya coast, killing nine Sea Tigers in the process.

According to Navy Spokesman Commander D. K. P. Dassanayake, the boats were suspected to be ferrying a large stock of weapons and explosives.

A Navy vessel four kilometers off the Kalpitiya Sea had come under heavy arms fire from the two LTTE boats which ignored orders from the Navy to stop. The Navy then opened fire at the two LTTE crafts.

While the Navy was engaging the Sea Tigers, two other LTTE craft arrived from the direction of Silawathura from which shots were fired at the Navy. The two LTTE crafts were forced to flee when the Navy retaliated strongly, Commander Dassanayake said.

The last two LTTE are suspected to have made their way from Indian waters.
