COLOMBO: The National Movement Against Terrorism (NMAT)
yesterday appealed to all political parties and politicians not to cause
any action that could harm the government's on going operations to free
the country of LTTE terrorism on account of their political differences
with President Rajapaksa and his government.
The Movement's Executive Committee member and lecturer at
Jayawardenapura University Anuruddha Perera speaking at their national
conference yesterday at New Town Hall, Colombo 7, stressed that there
was no way that any political party or politician can charge the
government that it was not properly dealing with the LTTE problem.
"The government troops are well and truly liberating the country from
terrorism in pragmatic terms under President Rajapaksa's government," he
said. Referring to criticism levelled against Defence Secretary
Gothabhaya Rajapaksa by some MPs, Perera said: "Everybody knows that he
is President Rajapaksa's brother. So what ? Can one say he is not doing
his job?"
"As the National Movement Against Terrorism , we say he is the best
Defence Secretary the country has produced. So why try to hit him for
being the President's brother." he asked. "We will extend our full
support to the government because of it's genuineness and pragmatic
approach to fight the LTTE terrorism on a firm footing,"he said.
He said the way their Movement see it the country is already divided
and the dividing line is those who support the LTTE and those who
support the cause of wiping it out.
"Our future decisions will be based on that," he said. |
