Kotte’s soccer giants clash on Saturday

SOCCER: For Kotte football League which won the ‘Best football League award 2004’ Saturday, February 24 will be historic day.

Kotte FL always famed for its football embarked in this year’s League tournament and worked off a record 80 matches in four months.

24 teams were divided into two groups and the finalist will confront each other in the grand finale.

The four teams that will meet in the final will be Bandaranayakapura, Sarasavi SC and Moragasmulla SC in the Division I, while, Bandaranayakapura Youth SC will meet Moragasmulla Youth SC at Obeysekarapura MC ground, Rajagiriya, Feb 24.

The match between Division I teams, Sarasavi SC and Moragasmulla SC will keep the spectators spellbound. Both teams have been promoted to play in the FA and Premier League, they have both proved class qualifying in their group tournaments conducted by FFSL.

Secretary Telesphor Dias, said that much attention has been forcussed on youth. He emphasised that discipline will be maintained strictly during the final.

President of the Kotte FL, DIG Pathirana said that the ‘Motto’ of the League ‘Prevention of Crime through sports’, since the League had stepped into enforcing displine there had been a remarkable improvement towards a much better society.

He further emphasised the steps taken by the League to spread the gospel of clean football have borne fruit as school leavers have taken to football, and that was why that Division II had been introduced.

DIG Pathirana also said that he was spearheading a team of energetic officials to guide the schools to produce schoolboy soccerites to represent the ageing national players, headed by his Secretary Telesphor Dias.
