Join hands with government
COLOMBO: All attempts made by reactionary forces to disrupt
the government’s forward march are bound to end up in failure because
the masses are firmly behind the government, said Healthcare and
Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.
He was addressing a meeting after inaugurating construction work on
stage 2 of the Nelumgama water supply scheme costing Rs. 42 million in
Badulla recently.
De Silva said that even though the SLFP did not engage in poster wars
and protest marches like certain other political parties, it had never
undermined fundamental rights of the people.
The party which was famous for conducting protest marches was unable
to provide people with jobs or any other basic needs. Members of this
party had never visited their electorates after winning elections by
duping the masses through their slogans.
This party was now keeping aloof from the UPFA leaving the sole
responsibility of serving the people on the SLFP.
De Silva said people should further strengthen the SLFP to enable it
to serve them better.
He said the government today represent all shades of political
opinion, communities and religions and it acted in a truly national
spirit eschewing political and other petty differences.
Therefore it is futile for people in the villages to engage in
unnecessary political bickering. Instead they should unite to strengthen
the hands of the President and the government. |
