Underage girl's rapist gets 15 years' RI

COLOMBO:A man convicted of raping an underage girl was sentenced to 15 years rigorous imprisonment. Colombo High Court Judge Upali Abeyratne on Thursday.

The Court also ordered D. L. L. de Pontin of Nugegoda to pay Rs. 500,000 as compensation to the victim and another five years' RI in default.

Pontin was indicted for raping the girl in Nugegoda between January 2003 and January 2004.

The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 and another one years' RI in default.

State Counsel Chathrika de Silva, Madawa Tennakoon and Nawaratne Marasinghe appeared for the prosecution. Attorneys Dammika Basnayake and Nimal Muthukumarana appeared for the Defence.
