New circular to benefit public servants

COLOMBO: Public Servants who stagnate on the maximum point of their respective salary scale for years will benefit through a new circular issued by Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry.

Ministry sources told the Daily News that the issuing of such a circular was in response to demands by trade unions and individual public servants.

According to Ministry sources, the new circular will benefit a large number of Public servants in the Lower and Middle Grades of the Public Service.

The Ministry has issued the circular enabling the public servants who reach the maximum salary step of their salary scales of their respective grades to draw annual salary increments until they are promoted to another grade or retire from the service.

National Trade Union Centre Chairman and Parliamentarian K.D. Lal Kantha told the Daily News that it was one of the demands listed by their Union for the proposed trade union action which was to be held on February 2.

It was not carried out as the Ministry agreed to address the public servants' grievances.
