Cliff Richard in Sri Lanka on Monday

British pop icon Sir Cliff Richard is to arrive in Sri Lanka on Monday (19) to give his first-ever live concert in Colombo.

Sir Cliff Richard

Cliff is to perform at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, Colombo 10, in a two-and-half hour show, which begins at 8 pm on February 23 (Friday).

The concert will be part of Cliff Richard's "Here and Now" World Tour.

Cliff had already performed in Dubai, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. As in the itinerary of the "Here and Now" Cliff Richard's World tour, he is to give a concert in Japan on February 18.

The singer is scheduled to fly to Sri Lanka immediately after the concert in Japan, the organisers told the "In Tune."

Sir Cliff Richard will be the third international artist to hold a live show in Sri Lanka since the January, 2006. International artists, Englebert Humperdinck and Lobo had made their appearance for live concerts in Sri Laka in the latter half of 2006.

The Cliff Richard concert in Colombo will be a mega event with a number of international artists playing and singing with Cliff.

Twenty four persons will come along with Cliff, among them four back vocalists, guitarists, keyboardists, saxophonists and several other instrumentalists.

A couple of sound engineers and computer engineers are also included. Eighty per cent of the sounds and lighting equipment will come from London for the show.

The show will be held with sophisticated sound systems. And the concert is expected to give out a different musical experience to everyone, said the organisers.

Cliff is a natural stage act who simply enthrals those who listen to him drawing their participation to the act.

Sir Cliff Richard (born Harry Rodger Webb) once dominated the British popular music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Cliff Richard had charted many hit singles, including Number One chart toppers like "Living Doll" and "Travelling Light" in the 1950s, "Please Don't Tease", "The Young Ones", "Bachelor Boy", "Summer Holiday", "The Minute You Are Gone" and "Congratulations" in 1960, also "Move It" which made number two in December 2006.

He is the second artist with the most aggregate time spent on British record charts after Elvis Presley. Cliff won the Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist during the past 25 years (1977).

He was presented with the Brit Award for Best British male solo artist again in 1982. He was honoured with the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 1989.

Cliff will tour to Johannesburg and from there to Europe after his concert in Colombo.

Derek on Guitar: More Triads

Let's learn more triads. You have already learned a few major triads starting from the lowest fingered note of the guitar F, taking that as the tonic or the home note of the first triad and ascending chromatically (half steps) up to note A on the E6th string.

Let's continue from there with the next triad.

Note finger fret string

A# i 1 A

D p 5 A

F m 3 D

B m 2 A

D# i 1 D

F# p 4 D

C m 3 A

E i 2 D

G p 5 D

C# r 4 A

F m 3 D

G# i 1 D

D p 5 A

F# r 4 D

A 1 2 G

D# i 1 D

G p 5 D

A# m 3 G

Learn to play these triads. Derek's advise , always play each note with the correct finger as in the chart. Sing each triad after respective notes have been played. This will make triads playing more interesting.
