Rambukwella assassination bid: Probe continues

Sarojini Kusala Weerawardane allowed the Crime Investigation Division
(CID) to subject a suspect who allegedly attempted to assassinate
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to further investigations.
The suspect was produced in Court on Tuesday by the CID which stated
that the suspect was a member of the LTTE.The suspect Punya Murthi Mohan
alias Kiriba, a resident of Kilinochchi, was suspected of attempting to
assassinate Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya
Rambukwella.
The suspect was arrested following information received by Sub
Inspector R.M.A. Rajapaksa. The suspect had engaged in several attacks
against the Armed Forces and is an expert in collecting intelligence. He
specialised in changing EMEI numbers in mobile phones.
Later he was handed over to the CID for further investigations. The
suspect has revealed during the investigation that he collected
information for a mission to assassinate Minister Rambukwella. The
Magistrate allowed the CID to continue further inquiries and produce the
suspect in Court on February 10.
