Islandwide recruitment drive by Sri Lanka Army

COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Army will recruit 2000 soldiers and the interviews commenced in several Army Camps yesterday. There had been a good response and selected people will be recruited on the same day according to military sources.

Meanwhile, a total of 552 Army deserters have reported back to their camps under the General Amnesty declared from January 20 by the Government.

Defence sources said that there were 398 regular soldiers and 154 volunteers among them . All of them have consented to re-join and serve the country. Authorities hoped that more deserters will arrive by the January 31 which is the last day.

The Vakarai victory has motivated many young people to join the Army, sources said.
