President praised for forming broad national coalition of forces

COLOMBO: Senior Advisor to the President, and former Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando praised the bold leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in forming a broad national coalition of forces.

Ranil Wickremesinghe has been the political curse of Sri Lanka. He has for over 30 years kept down talented people. Having lost two Presidential Elections, two Parliamentary Elections and numerous other elections, he had clung on to the UNP leadership, foisting his lack of vision and management on the whole country.

The mass exodus of the few UNP MPs left after successive defeats is the result. As a person who has been a elected UNP MP for 27 years (until axed by Ranil), I urge that the UNP must at least now get itself a leader who can genuinely work with President Rajapaksa to unite and develop our beloved country.
