LTTEers led luxurious life using civilians as human shield
From Ranil Wijayapala in Vakarai
VAKARAI: The month long misinformation campaign carried out by the
LTTE using thousands of innocent civilians in Vakarai and Kathirveli as
human shield was bared to the entire world by the Security Forces after
exposing the luxurious life the LTTE terrorists had led at the cost and
misery of the Internally Displaced Civilians.
The Security Forces who took control over the area on Friday pointed
out to the Lake House journalists who visited the Vakarai and the
Kathiraveli areas yesterday that the food shortage and the lack of
medical facilities propagated by the pro-LTTE media was a total bluff
and the LTTE had used these food stocks sent for the civilians for their
usage.
"They have channelled all the food stocks sent to the Vakarai and
Kathirveli civilians by INGOs for their usage instead of distributing
them among the civilians", Lt. Colonel Anura Sudasinghe who was in
Vakarai town told the Daily News.
He said the Vakarai hospital was a testimony to say that there was no
severe drug shortage in the area as propagated by the pro-LTTE media at
the beginning of this month.
The Vakarai hospital had all basic medical supplies in its stores as
we entered the Vakarai hospital last morning along with the Security
Forces. "The LTTE had used all these medical stocks to treat their
wounded cadres disregarding the civilian patients," Lt. Colonel
Sudasinghe said. He said the Security Forces transported more than 25
patients from the Vakarai hospital left behind by the fleeing civilians
and the LTTE cadres last Friday after entering Vakarai town around 11.30
a.m.
The Security Forces which engaged in search operations found large
stocks of food at the main LTTE bases in Kathirveli and Vakarai
including the base used by the Eastern LTTE leader Swarnam. Large
consignments of food stocks were seen scattered in many parts of the
Vakarai and Kathirveli areas as they were unable to move those food
stocks to safer areas as the Security Forces took control over the area.
A large number of luxury vehicles, tractors, cabs, motorbikes, Canter
trucks donated by INGO, specially by Oxfam were found destroyed within
main LTTE bases by the fleeing terrorists.
A large number of vehicles belonging to civilians which had been set
on fire by the LTTE terrorists were also found in many parts of the
Vakarai and Kathirveli area.
The Security Forces who had taken full control of the Vakarai and
Kathirveli areas by Sunday morning are now engaged in search operations
to unearth large hauls of weapons left behind by the fleeing LTTE
terrorists.
The Security Forces have so far recovered 161 T-56 weapons, one 120
mm artillery gun, 81 mm mortar launcher, 40 mm gun, 12.7 mm gun, eight
RPG launchers, six radio sets, 767 anti personnel mines and nine
claymore mines. |
