Relief to Vakarai

COLOMBO: Steps have been taken to send funds and essential
foods for displaced in Vakarai, Batticaloa by the Nation Building and
Estate Infrastructure Development Ministry.
The destructions triggered by the LTTE in Vakarai recently claimed
many lives and made 19,731 families homeless and 71,631 persons were
displaced. The Ministry took immediate steps to provide the essential to
these people in dire need.
Secretary to the Ministry M.S. Jayasingha said that they would
distribute ten metric tons of goods among the displaced persons. These
food items include rice, flour, sugar, dhall, milk powder, noodles,
variety of biscuits, soap and mosquito coils valued at Rs. one billion.
He further said that he had received Rs. one million as relief to
distribute among the displaced persons. They have stored the dry foods
to use in case of emergency, he added. |
