UGC accepts Eastern University VC's resignation
COLOMBO: The University Grants Commission (UGC) yesterday accepted
the resignation of Prof. Sivasubramaniam Raveendranath, the missing Vice
Chancellor of the Eastern University after considering the request by
his family members from the Commission.
Prof. Raveendranath's family has requested the UGC to accept his
resignation from the post of Vice-Chancellor of the Eastern University
as they believe that those responsible for restraining him will release
when his resignation is accepted by the UGC.
"Considering the request made by his family the University Grants
Commission decided to accept his resignation from the post of Vice
Chancellor, Eastern University, Sri Lanka," a press release from the UGC
stated last night.
Prof. Raveendranath went missing since December 15, 2006 while
attending an official function in Colombo.
The UGC said an Acting Vice Chancellor has already been appointed to
cover the duties of the post of Vice-Chancellor, Eastern University and
action has been taken to appoint a permanent Vice-Chancellor.
The UGC requested the people or organisation responsible for
restraining Prof. Raveendranath to release him unharmed considering the
action taken by the UGC.
