More jobs for Lankans in Korea

COLOMBO: The government of Korea has given an unlimited quota
to Sri Lanka to send as many as Sri Lankans for foreign jobs in Korea,
Labour Relations and Foreign Employment Minister Athauda Seneviratna
said.
The assurance was given in keeping with a service agreement signed at
the Labour Ministry, Colombo, between Minister Seneviratna and a team of
representatives from the Korean government.
The Korean team comprised Korea's Labour and Environment Committee
member Maeng, Korea's National Planning and Industrial Committee member
Hyungkyu and several MPs of the Korean Government.
The Korean representatives said that they will recruit Sri Lankan
workers to be employed in Korea only through the Labour and Foreign
Employment Bureau of Sri Lanka in keeping with the agreement.
Minister Seneviratna said that the Korean government has lifted its
previous annual quota of 9,000 jobs offered to Sri Lankan migrant
workers in offering the new free quota.
Korean Ambassador Kwon Yung Dal, Ministry Secretary Mahinda
Madihahewa, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau's Director Planning
Jayasinghe and Acting Director Jayawardena Athauda were present on the
occasion. |
