Entries open for children's art festival

COLOMBO: Entries are now being received for the initial round of the 2007 State children's art competition and festival jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Department and the Sri Lanka Arts Council.

A Cultural Affairs Department release said the competition will be held in five categories viz. primary (pre-school to Grade 2), post-primary (Grades 3-5), junior (Grades 6-8), senior (Grades 9-11) and senior secondary (Grades 12-13).

Candidates can choose a topic and medium of one's choice and can submit only one art work of 18x14 inches size.

The name and address of the candidate, topic and the district should be written in English and Sinhala on the reverse of the art work duly attested that it is his/her own creation and sent to the Secretary, National Art and Sculpture Sub-Committee, National Art Gallery, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7 to reach him on or before February 15.

The release said during the first round 150 candidates would be selected from each district for the second round. A workshop would be held for them and at its conclusion they would be given the opportunity to create their own art work.

Art works selected from the second round would be submitted for the State children's art festival.

The award ceremony of the festival would be held on October 1 at the National Art Gallery to coincide with the Universal Children's Day.
