Probe into timber racket

HOROWPATHANA: Agrarian Services and Development of Farmer Communities Minister S.M. Chandrasena has written to the Presidential Investigations Unit seeking an extensive and immediate investigation on a large scale timber racket in Horowpathana, Anuradhapura District.

The Minister has also complained to Police Stations in Kahatagasdigiliya and Horowpathana which have arrested racketeers with timber worth million of rupees in Huruluwewa and the forest reserve in Aanaolondaawa of the Horowpathana area.

It has been disclosed that some Government officials in Anuradhapura are involved in the racket.

These officials have also prepared illegal deeds for these forest reserves. The Presidential Investigations Unit has already started probing to apprehend the culprits.
