Rs. 193m for coast conservation
COLOMBO: Rs. 193 million has been set apart to the Department of
Coast Conservation from this years Budget for its coast conservation and
management programme, Department Director Dr. R.A.D.B. Samaranayake
said.
He said Rs. 110 million from this allocation will be utilised for
building coast conservation structures in areas identified as subjected
to coastal erosion.
Kuttiduwa and Kepungoda in Gampaha District Induruwa, Hikkaduwa,
Pitiwella, Mahamodara and Unawatuna in Galle District, Weligama and
Wellamadama in Matara District and Godawaya in Hambantota District are
some of the areas where coast conservation structures will be built.
Rs. 10 million has been set apart for coast conservation work in
times of natural disasters caused by monsoons. |
