Cold weather to last for few more days

COLOMBO: The prevailing wintry weather condition is expected to prevail for a few more days, metrological authorities said.

Frost appeared in Nuwara Eliya after several years. The Metrological Department said the temperature level and humidity were lower which resulted in bringing down the temperature to nil in Nuwara Eliya.

January is generally one of the harshest winter months in the Northern hemisphere and the effects are felt even in more temperate climes.

The Metrological Department also stated that winds blowing from the East will change the current wintry weather into rainy weather. Light showers will fall in the South East and Hambantota areas.

Rainy weather is likely to remain until March.
