CWE ordered to reinstate security officer

COLOMBO: Labour Tribunal President and Additional Magistrate Deepthi Guruge who inquired into a Labour Tribunal case filed against the CWE by Ranjith Algama of Halgahadeniya Road, Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya for wrongful dismissal from service ordered the respondent institution to reinstate the complainant in his job with back wages amounting to Rs. 277,650.

In his complaint Algama stated that he was a junior security officer attached to the CWE and was dismissed from service without a valid reason. Respondent CWE filing answers said the complainant had robbed 5 tins and 10 packets of cheese while he was working at the CWE's Bambalapitiya showroom and he was dismissed after a proper disciplinary inquiry.

Labour Tribunal President Guruge further in his judgement said the charges levelled by the CWE against the complainant cannot be proved since the complainant had already been acquitted by the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate in the relevant case filed by the CWE in this regard.
