Kandy YMCA - Junior National Weight Lifting Champions

WEIGHT LIFTING: Young Men's Christian Association, Kandy, won their
third national title in weight lifting for their centenary year of 2006
when they annexed the Junior National Weight lifting title organised by
the Sri Lanka Weight Lifting Federation worked off at the Gymnasium of
University of Colombo.
Kandy YMCA earlier won the Senior Novices meet and later the senior
weight lifting nationals and the current title was third championship
won in a row during the last four months.
Kandy YMCA who became champions totalled 20 points while Dharmaraja
College, Kandy finished runner-up with 15 points and Kurunegala Weight
Lifting Club finished third with 9 points.
Nineteen-year-old K. K. Asanga of Kandy YMCA was adjudged the Best
Lifter of the meet. Ransilu Jayatillake of Kandy YMCA competing in the
94 kg. category did the highest lift for the meet when he hoisted 272
kilogrammes and the second placed P. W. M. N. Chathuranga of Kurunegala
totalled only 160 kgs to win by a margin of 112 kgs which was the
highest in the meet.
