Cuba reaffirms support for peace process in Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: Enna Viant Valdes, Ambassador for the Republic of Cuba on
the occasion of 48th anniversary of the Triumph of Cuban Revolution on
January 1, 2007, said, the commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the
Revolution of the Republic of Cuba gives me the welcome opportunity of
extending to the Sri Lankan people and Government, our warm
congratulations and renew our resolution to continue working in order to
further enhance the friendly relations and cooperation between our two
countries and leaders Fidel Castro and Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Cuba's favourable economic performance in 2006 has marked the highest
increase ever registered on the island since the 1959 triumph of the
revolution.
That achievements made in 2006 demonstrate that it is possible to
create a different society according to the people's free will and in
dignity.
This year's results show the continuation of the stabilising and
strengthening of the economy, which began to take off in 2004 and it is
a result of the great efforts of the Cuban people.
The economic upturn has had a direct impact on the daily lives of
families across the country. Cuban society is going ahead because of our
social participation and the real support of the population in the
exercise of power, one important strength to face the present and coming
tasks.
Cuba also has a high performance in the solidarity and humanitarian
aid.
Cuba reaffirms its support for the peace process in Sri Lanka and is
sure that an acceptable negotiated political solution for their internal
conflict will be settled for the well-being of the people and for the
rehabilitation and national development.
Cuba is also committed to maintain and strengthen our traditional
relationship between the two nations.
