SLSI to enhance quality, standardisation

PROMOTION: Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) will commence
training programmes on promoting quality and standardisation, which is
vital for the economic growth of Sri Lanka, Director Marketing and
Promotion of SLSI Wasantha Meewaddana said.
"Quality Management training is important. SLSI is a facilitator to
promote quality production. Various techniques are taught during these
programmes," he said.
"The four basic requirements to enhance the quality are materials,
machines, manpower and method. This is called the 4 `M' concept.
Improving the quality enables the industries to survive in the
competitive global market," he said.
Training programmes will cover several important aspects of quality
production. The programmes will be based on Quality Management System,
Internal Quality Auditing, Development and Documentation of
Environmental Management System and Food Safety Management System. 5S
application in productivity and quality improvement is also included,
Meewaddana said.
The participants will gain knowledge on quality auditing, planning
and scheduling audits. Workshop on Environmental Management System will
be on environmental aspects and impacts, he said.
All interested can participate in these programmes. The trend is for
the private and Government employees to participate in these unlimited
programmes. The programmes will create better employment opportunities
for school leavers and university students.
