The 3rd Reggie Candappa Awards fetes talent
AWARDS: The advertising industry toasted the life and legacy of
industry doyen Reggie Candappa at the 3rd Reggie Candappa Creative
Awards - better known as the Reggies.
WINNER: Dileepa Abeysekera presenting an award. |
The Reggies, which has now become an annual event, was founded by the
Reggie Candappa foundation, in memory of the late Godfather of
Advertising, to encourage craftsmanship in advertising and to ensure the
work that display true artistry are recognised and rewarded.
This years Reggies' were awarded at a ceremony held at Colombo's
Trans Asia Hotel on December 13, 2006, which brought together the who's
who of Sri Lanka's advertising industry - from the stalwarts to
fledgling creatives alike.
A special exhibition of Reggie's photography captured in 1958 called
'One World' went on display at the event. The theme based on 'a touch of
Red', was the celebratory colour for the night, which was also a
favourite of Reggie Candappa.
The Awards were devised as part of the Reggie Candappa Foundation for
the Arts' commitment to nurture the craft of advertising by encouraging
and inspiring true creativity.
The Judging was purely on creative aspects with no commercial
influence whatsoever - the contestants had to satisfy the high
expectations of a panel made up of some of the most influential creative
forces in the advertising industry today - Nicola Bolling, Chandini
Rajaratnam, Upali Herath, Mike Masilamani, Russell Miranda, Rajiv
Wirasinha, Lilamani Dias-Benson, Dileepa Abeysekera, Steve de la Zilva,
Suren De Silva and Vinodh Anand.
The awards this year drew an enthusiastic response from agencies,
production houses and individuals alike - 35 agencies submitted entries
in the twelve categories under print and television for which awards
were handed out.
The awards saw a cross section of winners in several categories,
where the smaller agencies shone amongst the big names in the industry.
Individual winners also made it to the lime light clinching awards in
both TV and print.
Industry wallahs welcomed the awards and the creation of the Reggie
Candappa Foundation for the Arts - that has grown in size over the last
three years with an impressive number of over 500 entries.
Leo Burnett's Nicola Bolling, Chairperson for the Print Panel of
Judges, commenting on the awards said "One of the main things about this
event is that it has grown from a small event to an event of stature. It
is also very heartening to see the many creative people joining together
to take the creative standards of this country forward.'
Commenting on the success of the 'Reggies', Founder Member of the
Reggie Candappa Foundation for the Arts Neela Marikkar said, 'The most
important factor was that more recognition was given individuals verses
companies in the world of creative advertising.
