Indices gain marginally

BOURSE: The market turnover slightly improved yesterday mainly due to the trading of 1.3 million Sri Lanka Telecom shares.

The All Share Price Index gained by a marginal 5.16 points to close at 2,716.93 points and the newly reshuffled Milanka Price Index closed at 3,697.62 points moving up by 6.91 points. The turnover was Rs. 276 million.

Analysts said that they did not expect the activity levels to improve due to the holiday season and most investors would be keen in profit taking.

Although SLT was heavily traded the share remained flat and the other telecom sector company Dialog too closed flat at Rs. 27. Analysts said however that investor interest in blue chips and foreign participation has been at a moderate level.

John Keells Holdings share price increased by Rs. 1.50 to close at Rs. 195 and 167,000 shares changed hands yesterday. Over 1 million Tokyo Cement (non voting) shares also traded.
