Death of Lalith Edrisinha

COLOMBO: The death occurred on Saturday of senior journalist Lalith Edrisinha (66), a former Senior Associate Editor of the Sunday Observer.

Lalith passed away at his residence after a brief illness.

His funeral was held yesterday amidst a large gathering of journalists and others. Many paid their last respects to Lalith at the Barney Raymond funeral parlour where his remains were kept.

Lalith's first profession was teaching and he later became a Principal. An excellent writer, Lalith fulfilled his desire of becoming a journalist by joining the ANCL's Sunday Observer and Observer.

He contributed articles on varied subjects and handled many pages. He was also an editorialist who tackled many thorny issues with his pen. Lalith raised his voice against injustices caused to journalism and to journalists on many occasions.
