Military chiefs meet Ground Commanders in East

WELIKANDA: Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera and Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka in the aftermath of the recent terrorist confrontations in Vakarai and surrounding areas met ground Commanders in the East at the 23 Division headquarters in Welikanda yesterday.

Both military leaders exchanged views with Ground Commanders on contingency plans in the area and listened to their difficulties and problems. Brigade and Unit Commanders were present at the meeting where both military chiefs discussed matters related to various operations to restore normality after freeing entrapped civilians from the Tigers' grip.

Both military leaders stressed the need to protect human rights and their civil rights during military operations. Commander Security Forces Headquarters - East, Major General Nissanka Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding 23 Division Brigadier Daya Ratnayaka and senior military officers were present.
