CMC budget passed with majority

COLOMBO: The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Budget for 2007 presented by Mayor Uvais Mohamed Imthiyas was passed with a majority of 29 votes.

This was passed at the Council's Special General Meeting on December 13.

Whilst 47 of the 52 sitting members of the Council attended the meeting, five members were absent.

The debate of the budget commenced immediately after the Mayor's Budget Speech and finally a division was called.

Out of the 33 members who were present at the time of voting, 31 voted for the Budget and two against.
