Health Ministry to take over Kantale hospital

COLOMBO: Kantale General Hospital will be taken over by the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry from January, a Ministry spokesman said.

He said Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva met the hospital administration and management teams yesterday to discuss the future steps that would be taken shortly to develop Kantale hospital, which is a main Hospital in the Trincomalee district.

Four doctors and nursing staff will be appointed to treat victims of terrorist attacks in Vakarai and other nearby areas. An inspection tour will also be arranged shortly to ensure healthcare and medical facilities are available to displaced persons.

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has provided financial assistance, and sent an ambulance and a shipment of clothes to Kantale Hospital yesterday, he added.
